How to implement low emission zones
Posted at 13:53h
The implementation of Low Emission Zones (LEZ) is an effective measure to reduce air pollution and improve air quality in cities. At Ingartek we have participated in the process of implementing Low Emission Zones in several municipalities and cities, and have compiled the key steps to successfully implement a LEZ:
KEY STEPS TO IMPLEMENT LEZS
-
- Identification of areas: Identify the areas with the highest levels of pollution and road congestion where the LEZs will be implemented.
- Definition of criteria: Establish criteria for access to the EPZ, such as the type of vehicles allowed, hours of operation and exceptions.
- Communication and awareness raising: Inform citizens, businesses and other stakeholders about the benefits of the EPZs and the changes in traffic regulations.
- Gradual implementation: Implement EPZs gradually, starting with light restrictions and progressively increasing them as needed.
- Monitoring and evaluation: Monitor air quality and compliance with regulations for access to the EPZ, making adjustments as necessary.
- Incentives and support: Offer incentives and support to residents and businesses affected by the restrictions on access to the EPZ, such as subsidies for the purchase of clean vehicles or improvements to public transport.
