Pmus: sustainable urban mobility plans

Pmus: sustainable urban mobility plans

The aim of a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) is to ensure a healthy environment where people can walk and cycle on accessible, safe and attractive routes; and where longer journeys to work, education, health and recreation are addressed by public transport.

However, current urban mobility habits are characterised by continued urban sprawl and increasing reliance on personal vehicles, generating high space, energy and market impacts, highlighting the need for a well-designed urban transport system. We need a shift towards sustainable urban mobility.

REDUCING CONGESTION, STRESS AND ACCIDENT RATES

In this sense, a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan not only impacts on the competitiveness of companies, but also on the well-being of workers, which can be extended to society as a whole. As a result, measures such as more flexible entry and exit times or the promotion of teleworking have been introduced at no cost, helping to reduce traffic congestion, stress and even accidents.

With the implementation of a transport and mobility plan, savings in energy consumption and sick leave is one of the cost items that benefit. For workers, continuous, flexible working hours or the opportunity to work from home favour work-life balance or socialisation. In terms of the social fabric, the improvement of congestion and the atmospheric or acoustic nuisance it entails contribute to making the city friendlier and more sustainable. Likewise, sustainable urban mobility plan measures should not add additional costs for businesses. In this sense, it is noteworthy that many of these measures do not have an economic impact other than encouraging a change in family habits.

We encourage you to develop your strategic plan for mobility to work and contribute as much as you can towards sustainable mobility. At Ingartek we will help you to carry out these sustainable urban mobility plans through the following steps: mobility and traffic study, data collection and diagnosis; descriptive reports, and establishing goals and metrics. We will always propose measurable and achievable actions within a specific timeframe because, in addition, the plans must be a living, actionable and regularly updated instrument.
