Urban mobility law
Traffic, public transport or street design are key aspects to achieve more sustainable and comfortable cities for their citizens. With the new Urban Mobility Law, it is expected to achieve important improvements at this level.
WHAT NEW CHANGES ARE EXPECTED IN THE SUSTAINABLE URBAN MOBILITY LAW?
The Government is expected to approve the new Sustainable Mobility Law before the end of this year. The reason is that they consider that decarbonizing is very profitable. This is at least what the Minister of Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, affirms.
It has done so during the forum of representatives, regulators and users of mobility and the automotive sector. In addition, the Minister has insisted that she will support all the initiatives that are taken to guarantee that Spain is at the level of the automobile sector and is not left behind. Installing the necessary charging points to facilitate the acquisition of electric vehicles.
Among the accessibility plans, it is planned to promote more sustainable mobility through public transport and especially the train. In the Mediterranean corridor, a further 600 kilometers of route have been added for the next 4 years and the works of another 700 kilometers are expected to be completed.
WHAT ELSE IS INCLUDED IN THE LAW ON SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY?
To comply with the decarbonization strategy, it is planned to mobilize more than 13,000 million in sustainable mobility projects. In addition, it is estimated that more than 180,000 jobs will be created in the medium term and that around 20,000 million will be contributed to the Gross Domestic Product.
In order to achieve sustainable urban mobility, electric vehicles must also be promoted, as we have already mentioned. In fact, there is a goal for the year 2030 and that is that there are more than five million of this class of cars in our cities.
